Fantom + Arranger?.... Drools

Apparently this combination exists currently. Use the Fantom arranger together with a software package like, OMB, or Live Styler. Viola, a synthesizer with arranger capabilities.

I completely agree with Wazza & Genesys. The future is in softsynth arrangers that are modular based. Thus allowing for complete customization, and fututre upgrade abiltiy.

Now we're talking. This would greatly interest me. Could somone please enlighten me as to OMB or arranger software (uh, for the mac). I've seen some postings about it recently, but I've never actually seen one of these programs in action. Which is the best software to look at? And is it as good as what I'd get on my Tyros - ie: 4 fully customable variations with 5 fill ins, three intros and ends, regos, multipads etc etc? If it is, this might be where I should be heading...

Please enlighten!

Sounds like you guys might want to look at the Korg OASYS. Keyboard Mag has a very good review this month. Jordan Rudess uses one with his work with Dream Theater.

Guys Yamaha tried something very close to this around 1996. It was called the QS-300. Of course the public wasn't ready for it then, but I think with all the positive reviews arrangers have been getting, the time is right to make one.

remember that bigger is not always better. I've hear gigabites of samples sounding as rubbish and small Mb samples but well done (one example: Akai - Miroslav Vitous series)
sounding wonderful. It's a matter of ability more than the size in my opinion.
And remember also that what's in ram must be loaded at the startup, so take care also of this point if you don't want to go at the gig 2 hours in advance only to have your sonic arsenal ready to go ! :-)

One thing we should all be screaming for is faster load times for sample memory. What's the point in having 512MB of RAM if it takes 30min to load up? The keyboard industry is notoriously slow in adopting newer computer standards. USB 2.0 should be the MINIMUM for sample loading (or Firewire, especially on mLan equipped keyboards). Hell, half the samplers out there still use SCSI narrow! My K2500 is still one of the faster loaders out there at @1MB/sec.

Time to move on up, everybody.
