Dan O's thread about internal sequencers got me wondering: any fantom users here w/ an opinion on that internal sequencer? the new "xtreme" model sounds promising waveform wise, but not unless the sequencer is a bit more intuitive than the one on the Motif...

thanks in advance for any/all insight....

Tom
I had the Fantom S and traded it in on the Motif mainly die to the 64 poly on the Fantom.

Now Roland has come out with the Extreme with 128 poly.

I have contacted my dealer and told him when they get them in call me I want to have a look.

The Fantom though less powerful with less options is a 1000% easier interface IMO. I am much more af a Yamaha sounds fan but the MoES and I had the Mo7 classic to me is a nightmare to operate below the surface and so I wind up not using 75% of the features I paid for.

Conversely with the Fantom I barely had to reference the manual to operate it.

Others differ and do not find a prob with the Mo interface, but it eludes this dummy, I just do not get the logic of it at all.

Terry, I have to refer back to the manual a lot when I want to use a function that I don't always use. The basic stuff, and the more advanced stuff that I use regularly has become easier for me, but it's still not that hard for me to get lost in the keyboard.

Recently I converted a few samples I made from softsynths over to the ES. What drives me a little nuts is that every time I fire the board up, I have to reload this stuff, ( samples and all ) and I have to reload my "work" bank for my AN150 plug in so that my "stored" user voices will work / sound properly. The gurus on Motifator will dismiss this as easy, but there has to be a better way. I can save soundbanks in any of my softsynths and have them come up exactly as I saved them, and go right to work when I start them up.

I'd give the "X: a good look, but the sound palette will need a major improvement over it's predecessors, and I then I need to dig deep to see if I have to go through the hassle of reloading samples and user patches every time I fire it up, as is the case with the ES.

Most likely you will not have to load everything every time you power the Roland X AJ. The Roland X can store up to 544 Mb's of Sample RAM but also can store up to 1 Gigabyte of additional WAV ROM data. At least that's what I'm gathering from the info that I've read. With the ability to add WAV files (up to 1 GB worth) I would assume that that data would be stored permanently in ROM and therefore would always be available on the Keyboard the instant you fire up the Roland X. The same way as the other WAV ROM Voices are.

Let's hope so anyway.

Best regards,
Mike

That would be good news. I have some of the piano and Vibes samples that came with the ES cd on auto load and the time is somewhat ludicrious to me it takes to fire up I'd like to load the scats in too but I'd like to play the board at some point during the day rather than just watch samples load. However entertaining that may in fact be.

As with my 1st Mo and now the ES, some things I absolutely love and hate. The same would be true for any board though....the balance is does the love outweight the hate.

I won't get back on the GUI soapbox here as that was adequately discussed at MoTown and this is Arrangerville.

To the original Q here though, the pattern seq. on the Mo is very cool and easy enough, but for me to go beyond just recording on it starts the Mo excedrin headache.

The Fantom conversely I thought was just about as easy as it gets (well almost) to operate right out of the box. Not as powerful, but then perhaps with all my other gear, I do not need as powerful.
