Today I went to the local instrument shop to try the new Yamaha Tyros. The first impression was good. The sounds and styles are very similar with the PSR9000 which I own. Still, it doesn´t matter. The Musitronics USB interface doesn´t work properly. I phoned to Musictronics and they said that they weill send me another one. I have been waiting a month now and nothing has happened. So, what should I do? Do I send the mahlfunktioning interface back and ask them to give my money back, or what? Help me, plese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Tyros had USB interface also, but is it compatible with Macintosh (operating system 10.2.2)? The Tyros has some other software also for editing sounds and styles (my dealer told me), but do they work in Macintosh?

I hope you all understand my bad english!

Glad you got a chance to try the Tyros. First impressions are that its very similar to other psr's, its only when you start exploring it in depth and performing with the multipads, styles and voices that you realise it's a bit special!

The Tyros USB interface is rather slow compared to the one you've tried. On average tyros owners are getting about 10KB/sec transfer of files. Its no big problem when you are copying a few midis or styles, but if you attempt to copy a few hundred MB of data from a previous drive or cd rom, be prepared for a big wait! The bonus though is that the USB interface also serves as a nice 32 midi channel interface to your pc!

Does it work with Macintosh? Can I copy styles, midis and registerations to the internal hard disk of Tyros with my Macintosh?

I really hope that I can. Otherwise it is not worth buying the Tyros.

Also is it possible to update the OS of the Tyros from the hard disk?

Yes Macintosh software is provided. I don't have a mac so I can't try it out, but the cd that's supplied provides a suite of programs for both platforms, including XP.

Thank you!

That was good news. Very good news. Now I have to go to my dealer and ask for home trial.

What kind of hard disk should I buy for the tyros?
