One of my past keyboards (I think it was the Kurzweil K1000) had what I'll call for lack of a better term a "freeze pedal." This was a seperate footswitch that allowed you to freeze selected notes while continuing to play other notes. I found this useful for many songs.

My SD-1 has a million alternatives for programming the foot switches...but not this feature. Are you able to do this with any of todays keyboards?

Perhaps I'm totally wrong, but isn't the sustain-pedal for this function ?
At least mine has this.

Most synths/arrangers have two kinds of sustain modes. One mode is a normal sustain, the other is a infinite sustain whereby all notes are held until the pedal is released or notes drop-off due to lack of polyphony when new notes are hit.
