I worked with it for a good part of the day today. So far, I like it. It doesn't have quite everything that Sonar does I guess ( Cal scripts and maybe a few of the advanced audio / midi editing features, but I like having the vst capabilities and it supports the Motif and many of the other recent Yamaha synths and arrangers. The instrument files seem to mimic the Cakewalk types, and if I remember correctly, it will allow for the use of the same .ins files
I've used N Track a lot in the past because I found it so easy to work with, and for the price it has excellent features, but it's sequencer is very primitive compared to Sonar or XG works. The SQ1 kinda bridges that gap a bit. I find it to be just as easy to use as N Track, and it does have a better sequencer ( although I haven't tried the updated release - N Track's vers 3 ).
I'd have liked to have the importer function from XG works, but it appers that the normal copy paste functions will work fine. XG users probably would miss the XG edit function ( unless it's hidden somewhere that I can't find or is available as a plug in ). It does support the Yamaha plug in board editors, so I can edit AN150 and VL150 voices from within. It has 24 / 96 audio capability and 960ppq sequencer resolution.
All in all, for something that I didn't have to buy as an extra ( came with the Motif ES ), I'm pretty happy with it to this point, and I think I may be using it quite a bit.
