AJ - on my SD1
In pattern edit - when I record in maj and maj7 - any major chord or maj7 chord triggers both patterns. In min and min7 - a min chord triggers both patterns. Can you help me understand what goes on here. The manual has no guidelines about recording different tonalities - or what the different combination choices are for.

thanks
Mike

When you record in different tonalities, the recorded parts should be heard (bass, chords1-5) only when such chords are played-back. If you record in 'M. Min, M7th', all chord types will be recognized when played back.
Thanks,

AJ

I am not sure you understood my question. I know that when you record different tonalities they are only supposed to trigger when you play that chord back. I am telling you that this is not what the SD1 does. Sure - in (maj min 7th) everything plays back - but like I said before - if you record Maj or Maj7 tonality - they both play back on EITHER chord. I have made a list of how the SD1 responds to the different tonalities recorded in pattern edit.

Recording Maj or Maj7 - both patterns are triggered by either a Maj or Maj7 chord.

Recording in (maj min) combination - a Maj or Maj7 or Minor chord triggers the pattern but not Minor 7th.

Recording in min - pattern triggered only by minor chord

Recording in minor 7th - pattern triggered by minor or minor 7th.

Both Maj7 and Min7 chords trigger the upper structure of the chord - So for example in a C maj 7 - the notes you hear in the pattern are E,G, and B. and for C min7 it is Eb, G,and Bb.

Aj - if this is something new to you- can you please pass it along to Sandro for inquiry?

thanks
Mike

Some answers for you.

This is how your SD1 should operate (with release 3.0b or higher):

When you are in RECORD mode (PATTERN EDIT);
* Select your tonality prior to pressing REC (F8).
* If you select 'M.m.7th', whatever you record will be played back no matter what chord you play (after recording is over and 'PLAY' is highlighted).
* If you select 'Maj',and then record, you will hear what you recorded with this tonality only when you playback a major chord.
* If you select 'min', and then record, you will hear what you recorded with this tonality only when you playback a minor chord.
* If you select .....

Ignor what you hear during recording. When the SD1/X1 resets to 'PLAY' after you've recorded your assigned measures, you can 'test' by playing a major, a 7th and then a minor chord and you should hear the difference then (or when you exit PATTERN EDIT and are back to playback standard mode).
This feature currently works better/well in OS 3.0.
Thanks,
AJ

PS: If you record with tonality set at 'Maj.min', a major or/and minor chord played back will trigger this recording. If you record with tonality set at 'Maj.7th', a major and/or 7th chord played back will trigger this recording ...

Something jumped out at me in your last response - I assumed when the pattern tonality choice said (Maj 7th) - that it meant a major seventh chord. After several trying hours I finally figured out it means major chords and 7th chords - all 7th chords as it turns out. So........same thing on the Min 7th screen - minor chords and all 7th chords. The manual says there are only two combination tonality options (maj min) and (maj min 7th) - but there are those two others it seems. Now things are alot clearer. Thanks for looking.

Mike
