Mariah Carey tried to put her mark on the National Anthem on Super Bowl Sunday . I heard she was lip syncing .....
Whitney Houston set the standards for the Anthem ....... do you agree ?
Now I watch the NBA all start game today and man oh man .........the anthem was not good IMO ! It's a tough song but please........ any other opionions ?

Personally, I would like to hear somebody sing it more or less as it was written.
A little "improv" is o.k., but some of them are getting carried away. Or am I just getting old?

At least you can't play around too much with God save the Queen! I mean just how could you improvise that? I just can't see Whitney or Maria or their collective wobbly heads doing much with it!

Wobbly head is one of my pet hates btw. When I see a singer (and it does seem obligatory these days) and all of a sudden the head goes in a different direction to the neck sometimes in quick succession. It does not matter how much I like the singer or the song it drives me to distraction.

I did try it once myself but only ended up with s very stiff neck, a note for work and some deep heat and thermogene wool for my trouble.

Mariah Carey is a waste of a good voice...I am getting old and I admit it!!! Style is one thing and tradition is another. When you have to sing the National Anthem give it your best and stay between the lines.And above all....Sing It With Respect!!!

Lets not forget when "Rosanne" sang it and grabbed her crotch afterwards a few years back!! I really wanna see a video or some pics of Uncle Dave singing the Anthem at the EAGLES game at Veterans Stadium also.

Going back a number of years to Magic Johnson and those fabulous pre-shaq years - I heard Marvin Gaye do the anthem at a lakeres playoff game - and at the time it was the most wonderful rendition I had ever heard - for me it stands against up well against whitney's..

The best rendition I've heard to date was vy Melba Moore. The lady has got the extremes in range, both ways.
Venessa Williams has also done her go at it, but I honestly haven't heard anyone match Melba.
If you can locate an old track entitled "Lean on Me", no this is not the Lean on Me you're thinking of, give it a listen. She'll blow you away...I promise.
