I have never heard or used a vocal harmonizer, such as the harmonizer on the PSR2000/2100. What can these harmonizers do? I was surprised that some here were not impressed with the harmonizer on the Discover 5. I was impressed by the demo. You can change your voice from female to male and vice versa, sound like the Back Street Boys, etc. Can the PSR2100 do this? Can the Digitech do this as well? What are their capabilities? Can you have 1 female harmonizer, 1 male harmonizer, 1 male & 1 female, a group of 3,etc.?

I love singing, but I don't have a good voice. Could a harmonizer make me sound like the Back Street Boys, Sinatra/Donny?

.. to use an old computer phrase: GIGO - Garbage In - Garbage Out ...

In answer to your first question, you are limited only by 1) the capabilities of the harmonizer, 2) your own vocal capabilities ... various brands/models have different features/options/presets ... I'm not familiar with the PSR, but the digitech ex has a number of presets, plus you can create your own .... I'm pretty sure you'll get more in-depth answers from some of the more experienced users on this board ...

Starkeeper...
My experience has been with Digitec and several of the onboard Yamaha VH's. And in my opinion, in no way do any of them duplicate the harmonies of live singers. BUT, they do add a little spice for a solo performance if not overdone.

Most any VH will offer a variety of harmonies and novelty voices which may be fun to experiment with. But, the real bread and butter value is in the flavoring digitized harmonies provide. It gives us solo guys a crack at making our performance litte more full and interesting.

Eddie,
Thanks for you reply. So does anyone use these novelty voices to enhance their singing? It doesn't sound like that, with many of the singers here. Many here mentioned that todays singers could not carry a note without the help of technology.
Just curious.

Star,

You can add a lot to any voice with digital effects--but in most instances, if you cannot carry a tuna in a five-gallon bucket there's no synth in the world that will make you sound like Donny or Sinatra. For those that have a relatively good voice, the sysths can transform that good voice quality into incredible.

In some instances, I suggested to some wannabe vocalist that they head for the nearest community college and take voice lessons. The courses are usually well taught by professionals who not only teach you voice control, but additionally they can expand your vocal range, teach you how to correctly breathe while singing, show you techniquest that help you improve your timing and keep you on key. All that for about $100--it's a real bargain!

You nailed it Gary. Very True.
I've gotten into using just the tiniest bit of chorus effect along with carefully applied delay(between 55-80approx.) When I trigger the chorus effect, for example, in the chorus or bridge, I've found it really adds some balls to the vocal so they jump out (but don't knock you down) then as the song reverts back to verse, I kill the chorus. Works for me, and I haven't had any complaints thus far.....
Just my thots..

Hi
I actually listened to some of the demo's on the Discover 5 ( online), and the one that really amazed me was where the fellow actually spoke the words and the harmonizer and it converted it into singing.
I don't use the harmonizer on my 9000pro, because I CAN't sing, but I haven't come across this particular function on my 9kpro. It would be really interesting to know if any of the other harmonizers have this feature ie convert spoken word into song.

best wishes
Rikki
