On the Yamaha Tyros & PSR2000/2100, aren't the 'preset styles' linked to specific 'multipads' so that when you load a style, a factory pre-selected and appropriately fitting 'multipad' is automatically loaded as well?

I thought I remembered it working this way on my keyboard until today.

When I initially boot up my Tyros keyboard, the default style loaded is 'Live8Beat' and the default multipad file loaded is 'HipHop1'. Is this normal? I don't remember because I always load a custom default 'Registration Bank File' immediately after booting up the keyboard.

Ok, without loading a 'Registration Bank File' this time, I select 'ANY' preset style (like 'OrchBigBand1'). The new style loads, but for some weird reason, the 'HipHop1' multipad still remains loaded. This is weird because the 'HipHop1' multipad is obviously incompatible with 'OrchBig Band1'. When I subsequently load 'any other' style(s), the 'HipHop1' multipad still remains loaded.

I performed a Function>Utility> "System Reset" , but the above problem still continues. I also checked to confirm that my keyboard's FREEZE group setting has the 'Multipad' checkbox UNCHECKED, as well as making sure the FREEZE button is turned OFF.

Is there a specific setting on the Tyros which enables/disables the ability for specific 'multipad files' to get automatically load when preset factory styles are selected?

Thanks in advance for all feedback & help from both Tyros & PSR2000/2100 owners in helping me solve this frustrating situation. How does this work on your keyboards?

Scott

Scott, I think your keyboard has a boo boo..It should be changing with each selection..Do you have it on a registration that locks the pads from changing..?

Scott,

This is normal when you turn the Tyros on and the default Style is Live8Beat. It is also normal for the HipHop1 Multi-pad to load when you turn on the Tyros. The Tyros defaults to the 'first' Multi-pad on the first Multi-pad page (in other words; the first Multi-pad listed within the Preset Multi-pad group).

What you have to do to get the Multi-pad specific for a certain Style is to press the "OTS LINK" button right next to the Orange "ACMP" (Accompaniment) button. Voila! You now have the Multi-pad that is "specific" for that Genre of Style, eg., ModCntryBld2, 60's Rock1, etc.

I know if you load custom Registrations at start-up all the time you might tend to forget the regular default Tyros boot up configuration. So to get the specific Multi-pad for a specific Style you have to enable the OTS Link button. Enabling the ACMP (Accompaniment) button alone won't do the trick.

Best regards,
Mike

Hi Fran, yep my KB had a boo boo alright. Operator error.

Hi Mike. you're RIGHT! What a coincidence that just minutes (seconds?) before I had checked back here to post my final discovery solution (after some time of experimentation), I read your response that it's indeed the OTS link button left in the 'off' position that was the total source of the problem. Mike, thanks for confirming that it is indeed 'Live8Beat' and 'Hiphop1' which are the default style & multipad files that get initially loaded before you load in your custom Reg File. Many thanks again for taking the time to provide the solution. I don't know what I'd do without you guys. Scott
