Hello all!
Forgive me if this has been posted somewhere already (I did a quick search and didn't see it anywhere) or if it's simply common knowledge.
Last night I was playing my PSR3000 with a Boogie Woogie Style. I really liked the Piano Bass Line that the Style was playing. I tried slowing the tempo down a bit and attempted to learn it by ear, but there were a couple of very subtle notes that I simply couldn't pick out. I wanted to learn how to play the Bass Line on my own without the Style.
So I created a new (blank) Song and set the board to record. I then simply triggered a C chord and allowed it to record a few bars of just the Style playing before stopping the recording.
I then switched to Score view on the LCD. It took me a few seconds to figure out which MIDI Channel the Bass Line was on, but eventually found it and was able to view the notes right on the screen.
This opens a lot of possibilities if you hear a riff in a Style (Intro, Main or otherwise) and would like to learn it.
I'm not sure how to adapt the method to other brand/model arrangers, but it works great on the PSR3000.
Anyway..
Hope this helps somebody out.
Take care!

-Mike

Mike. Interesting concept. This would be useful to help learn parts of an INTRO to enable you to play with as the intro progresses rather than it looks like the keyboard is doing everything.

I often do the same thing with my psr3000. It's a pretty cool "feature".

I actually use Band In a Box for this as you can see a visual of an actual keyboard being played above the actual Notation of the song while the song is being played. You slow the speed down to your taste.

It works great!!!

Mike,

Please tell me how you record the style in order to see the notes on the screen. I tried with no success.
Thanks!
Paul

Press the REC button to get ready to record a song.
Start the style playing (it's now being recorded).
Press the STOP button (in the song section, not the style start/stop) after the part that you're interested in has played.
Now you can press the SCORE button and press play to play what you recorded and view the notes on the screen.
You may have to change the midi channels to see the parts that you're interested in on the screen. You can do that by entering setup (8 button).

I hope that helps.

With the T2 I always improvise over the intro and endings. There's nothing worse than not playing something and just waiting for one of the variations to kick in after the intro has played. You may as well wave to the audience or stick your hands in your pockets if you just wait for the automation to stop lol

Jeffgoble,

Got it!

the problem was that I was not changing the midi channels in the setup screen.

Thanks!

Hey! I just discovered that this also works with voice demos. (PSR 3000)

Some of the organ demos are great...

Nice find Jerry.
I never would have thought to try that with the Demos!
I'll be playing with this too for a while now.
