The microphone used for vocals along with its recording enviorment will have an influence of over 95% of the resultant signal. Put more primatively, the mic means everything (practically), as it is your source signal. TAKE YOUR TIME selecting a microphone and if at all possible, aquaint yourself with a sound tech or engineer if you do not know one already. Ask he or she if they will go with you to select a microphone. Once you have your personal microphone, take great care of it.
