The Tyros product page at Yamaha.com has a new Vocal Harmony demo featuring Ellis Hall. He's a phenomenal keyboard player who is currently enjoying the benefits of Tyros. Enjoy! http://www.yamaha.com/menuitems/audioclip/dmi/TYROS/TYROS.htm

BTW, if you have a cached version of this page you will need to refresh or you will get the wrong demo.

Steve,
Thanks for the demo....T is for Tyros was more impressive but I must say what I was mostimpressed by was Ellis's what seemed to be a totally impromptu turn on the recorder and go and his playing skills. The ad libbing was very cool.....just jammin' if you will.

As I have said before key board harmonies (including my own, perhaps especially) all sound like keyboard harmonies to me, as opposed to real singers. They all have a bit of the "Donald Duckish" sound to me.

Terry ... I have to make you a demo of "A nightengale sang in Berklay Square" that I do like the Manhatten Transfer arrangement. I use a vocalist VR, and when treated as a vocal group, and not a "miracle worker" I find that I get a better result. I'm perfroming this weekend in a special show that will spotlight that number, BECAUSE of the strength of the harmonies.....if it turns out ok, I'll post a copy for you guys to hear. Voices need the same care in balancing that guitar or sax parts need to be acurate. You just can't turn it on and forget it ... you have to caress it, and hold it's hand through the phrasing. Rememeber ..... you're a part of a group when you use it. Things need to be addressed differently.
I hope I get a good recording of this show .... I'd like to share this aspect of gear usage with you all.

Dave,
I look forward to hearing it and I'd love to hear one of these harmonizers that sounds right to my ears rather than just kinda cool.

Thanks for sharing the link Steve. Ellis does a fabulous improvisation. The harmony effect is very good and quite realistic. A person would not need an external vocalizing unit at all when using the Tyros IMO. The quality is that good. I am sure Ellis' demos were made using Studio quality hardware, ie., top quality Mic, Cables, Mixer, Recorder, etc. which all plays a part in the finished product but it shows what can be done and what a person could achieve using his or her Tyros and the right equipment.

Steve, I am still waiting to try out the Tyros in my area: It is nowhere to be found in the San Diego Metropolitan area. GC says it has no intention of caring the Tyros in their stores. It is a special purchase item only. But be as that may, I do not intend to buy the Tyros but would like to demo it if I could. I am waiting for a Tyros Pro with "internal speakers", USB 2.0/Firewire, Digital I/O, playable Mega Voices, Smart Media but keep the Floppy Disk drive for midi files and such, 256 polyphony minimum, and 76 keys. Too much to ask? If Yamaha doesn't do it hopefully some of the other Arranger companies will see the need and wants of their potential customers and step up to the plate. In the mean time I continue to enjoy my PSR 2000 immensely and am amazed at the quality sounds and effects I get while using it. It truly is a great bang for the buck Keyboard.

Best regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,

You might consider what I did. I purchased my Tyros from Music123.COM:
http://www.music123.com/

They include a '30 day risk free full money back return if you decide to return it for ANY reason. The only thing you're responsible for is the return shipping if you decide not to keep it.

I purchased my Tyros from Dan Seda (x1014) at Music123 (back in December) and quickly determined it to be WELL WORTH the investment ($2,475) & a substantial upgrade from the PSR2000 (which I also own). Give him a call and let him know I sent you.

Scott
