I´m envolved in a serious musical project and i need a good sound module. I choose Roland because GS is a powerful tool.
I need your opinion.
Thanks

If you need GS (as opposed to straight GM) then you go for the SC880 or 8050.

Your better bet is the 8050 because of the extra features and polyphony. However the 880 is still great and unfortunately very underrated!!

The JV2080 has GM capability but not GS capability. It's more aimed at the user who doesn't so much need GM or GS but has it thrown in just for convenience' sake. This is Just IMHO. Cheers.

Go for that SC880 if you could find it. It's like a compilation of GS, JV/XP and SRJVXX sounds in one unit. The sounds (tones) are spectacular. It's a little less programmable than the JV/XP but the sounds are so good - much like having a JV2080 with a couple of expansion boards thrown in.

The choirs, strings, pianos, drum, EPs, et. rule. Go for it if you could find it. I got mine for $350 U.S. back in December. I also have an XP60 which is equivalent to the JV2080.

The JV2080 is more expandable and as you get more cash, you could expand the sound set from 640 sounds to over 2900 with the expansion boards. Note the falling price on the boards as Roland just issued their new XV line. The SC880 has 1,117 sounds built in.

I've seen the SC880 as cheap as $299 (It should really go for much more than that as this module is heavily underrated) and the JV2080 as cheap as $699-$750 here in N.Y.

Look hard. Good Luck

Hey WM! You have to look around in various classifieds here in N.Y.C. Magazines like LOOT and BUY N' SELL have many classifieds where people are selling there JVs at unbelievable low prices because they want to save up money to get their hands on Roland's new XV line.

Also look around on the net. SYNTHZONE.COM has a classified section that will take you to places all over the net.

Hey epu, I have a buddy in Younkers so I left a message for him on those papers. ( I am in the San Francisco area).
Kinda figured you were referring to used prices.
I did spend some time hitting all the sites under synthzone and I did find 2 2080's for sale. Not interested in the numerous 1080's out there.
I have had excellent results with eBay which I believe is the most efficient way to buy and sell gear.
I was hoping folks would unload their 10/2080's for the new Roland XV line up.
I was not overwhelmed by the 3080. I felt it was an incremental improvement vs the 2080 vs a dramatic improvement. I did an A/B comparison.
I guess if I owned a Super Jv or XP for some time I might be itchy for a new XV. Will be nice to get a 2080 at a reasonable price. Your comments about the Sc880 also caught my eye. Do you know if it takes the expansion cards ?
Thanks again.
a 2080 for awhile I might be inclined

Hey WM! I feel the same way you do about the XV line. I've had an XP for a couple of years now and am not really all impressed buy the XV line. I think that with a Bass & Drums expansion and a Session Board, you'd be in the same boat as the XV line.

I have the Hip-Hop expansion board as well as a couple of Experience boards. With the SC880 in combination with the XP, I feel as though I never run out of sounds. It's like the ultimate expansion.

With a JV2080, you get to expand with 8 boards! Man, that's 2900+ patches when fully expanded. The SRX boards onlu come with I think 64 patches on board, where the SRJV has over 250 on each board.

Look around man, you' find something.
