Stuck Notes During Midi Tx

It is probably difficult to generalize, but, I am pairing my Nord to My Technics KN7000 to use the organ left hand part on my Technics. This TX only from KN's midi out. It works fine but I keep getting stuck notes and have to hit the Nord panic button. I set up the same thing on my G70 and no problem. These are two TOTL arrangers with sophisticated midi implementation. I have gone through all parameters for a cause. The big question is whether to abandon the KN7000 in this configuration in favor of the G70. I don't give up easily, but I can't always be afraid of a stuck note during performance. This is the simplest midi application there is, and there should be a simple answer besides I am not getting a note off message.

Hi Bernie Try using better quality (Better shielded, lower resistance) cables, and make sure they are Midi cables, not just ordinary 5 pin Din cables. If the above fails, you could try a Midi box (Any will do) between your Nord & Technics, which has its own power supply, as this will make sure the Technics is receiving a full signal. (The G70 Midi chip may be more sensitive than the Technics) Hope this helps
Bill

Thanks to both of you. I used a powered midi box and not a hung note since. Bernie

I think Mac is on the right path. You might try to filter as much MIDI as is possible from the master keyboard, aftertouch, pitch bend etc., and just have the notes of the needed channel alone go down the pipe. If that MIDI cord worked fine for other setups, it's going to work fine here....
The other thing you might try to do is record a short piece from the Nord into a computer sequencer, and take a look at the data in a list format. I don't know about the Nord, but I have had problems from time to time with other B3 clones sending all kinds of ultra short 'key bounce' notes as well as the main note. Organ keybeds are setup to trigger at the TOP of their throw, rather than at the bottom. This makes for a very quick response, and mimics the B3 keybed, which triggered a lot higher than pianos and other mechanisms, but a problem comes when the key springs back after you hit it staccato and 'bounces' a little at the top of its' travel. That tiny bounce is sometimes enough to trigger an ultra short note on/off that may confuse the Technics.
If the Nord is doing this, it'll be pretty obvious from the note list in the sequencer...

I use 20'+ MIDI cables on my remote keyboard. No problems at all... I find making sure the MIDI cables don't run alongside power cables, and computer peripheral cables, lighting control cables, or anything that puts out an interference field has more to do with long length reliability, other than the usual stuff of making sure it doesn't get kinked or pulled, and using decent quality cables (anything other than rock bottom ones, in other words), than anything else. I can't even remember the last bad MIDI cord I had... Bernie's problem sounds nothing to do with the cable, if, as he said, he's already done the same thing with a G70 and had no problems...

I turned all midi traffic off except one channel tx and it hangs up once in a while without the midi box. Again, no problem with the box. I have ordered a good midi cable to eliminate that possibility. For all intents and purposes, my problem is solved.
Thanks
