Hey guys. I have a bit of a dilemma...I was looking at traveling overseas again and playing in some piano bars and hotels, but from what I just noticed, the airlines everywhere have really dropped their weight restrictions to a maximum of 70 lbs. To ship my SD1 over, it would easily surpass 85lbs in my case.

Cargo is simply not an option.

I'm flying into Copenhagen for a March gig in Aarhus if this comes through, but this might put a serious monkey wrench in it.

My only other option would be renting one while over there. Is this difficult to do? I know the keyboards are fairly common over in Europe and I could simply upload my midi files and styles and I'm good to go. It'd be perfect.

Are there stores in major cities like this that I could rent them for a month or so? At reasonable prices? Would really appreciate suggestions.

I haven't heard from that local company yet, although an email I got back from the sole importer in the UK wasn't very encouraging...they said:

I not sure I can help much as we only operate in the UK, so I guess you would need to contact the Ketron distributors in the various countries you visit to try to arrange a rental.

I do know that all instrument rental in the UK is very expensive and usually only taken up by broadcast companies and mega rich touring bands. You might find the best solution is to buy a second hand one from a shop and try to do a guaranteed sell back deal. BTW, Germany is the cheapest European country to buy a Ketron. Everything in the UK is much more expensive.

What about the Midjay? Is this more or less a substitute, portable SD1 without the keys? If it was extremely simple to upload midi files, my styles, parameters and settings to this device and it would basically function the same (albeit along with a real piano),this could also solve my problem. However, does it have a built in vocalizer too?

if you go over the weight limit you can pay for excess baggage. check with the airline each has different rates.

Or ship it to europe ...

Yeah I discovered that US airlines DO allow up to 100 lbs without forcing you to go cargo, you just pay extra fees which is fine.
Apparently only the Canadian ones have gone overboard.

It looks like Denmark isn't happening unfortunately since my passport is not going to be ready in time. I'm arranging something in April though and thankfully it seems to be no problem.

I have another problem...I have the North American SD1 with the typical 110 voltage I imagine.

This is what it says about the power on the island. What can I do to make sure the SD1 works fine?
