I have a 7 years old PSR-3000. I love it, but I think its about time to upgrade it.

I'm playing just for myself so I don't need anything too expensive (like a Tyros [I wish I could afford one]) but I do enjoy audio quality.

The PSR-S950 is about a year old now, features so many new and exciting functions from the latest Yamaha models, and probably no new PSR TOTL keyboard will be presented in the next 2-3 years, right? So I shouldn't wait for the next model of the PSR series, should I?

I would like to hear you thoughts, specially if you have upgraded from a 3K.
Answers like "there is not that big difference, so don't buy one" are totally accepted as well laugh

Thanks!

I've also got a 3000.

I had a good play with a 950 a few months back. It sounds immediately better and the SA voices are usable and significantly better.

However the s750 has a lot of the same stuff and is also worth a look. Is the s950 worth the very significant hike over the S750? This depends entirely on whether you need the additional stuff. There are some extra voices and styles, and clearly if you use the vocal processing your choice has been made! The mp3 playback and text file capability are useful but to me not game changers.

The 3k remains an excellent keyboard but time has moved on and the s950/750 are definately superior.

As others will probably say, ultimately you need to find a 950/750, have a seriously long try out using your own headphones, and then see whether you can justify the expense.

Dnj- lol (-:

John- Back in the days, I supposed I could do just fine with the PSR-1500 (because I don't use the vocal harmonizer and stuff). But it felt like I'm buying a castrated product. Also (this will sound dumb) the B&W screen is bothering me. But this is not the issue.

My main question is if the sound quality is much improved from the 3K. I will visit my local music shop and try it.

Bomba6, the PSR-S750 is essentially a PSR-S910 in a tuxedo, but without the Vocal Harmonizer, but having the same powerful new speaker system as the PSR-S950.

It has the same styles and SA Voices as the S910, and sounds very good indeed.

Dean Peters once said to me "The S-950 is like the PSR-3000 on steroids." Deane hit the nail on the head. The sound quality is far superior, my audiences love what they hear, and so do I. I still have one of my PSR-3000 keyboards for a backup system, and my daughter suggested that I sell it and purchase another S-950. I found out last night that she actually made some bids on one that was for sale on Ebay and was thinking seriously about giving it to me for Christmas.

The added features of the PSR-950, onboard audio recorder, improved sound system, playable SA voices, etc..., make it a giant step up from the PSR-3000.

Good Luck,

Gary cool

Ian- I might be wrong on this one, but when the PSR-S910 was announced, I read some reviews saying that it is not a must have upgrade over the 3K. It still might be a leap, but not as big as the S950 (from what I'm reading right now). So I don't think I'll upgrade to S910 / S750.

Gary- I didn't mention the price, because here in Israel we have no options. I kinda have to buy from the local Yamaha dealer, because buying a used KB off eBay will cost a lot of money (taxes) and in that price I could buy a new KB with warranty. Otherwise, I would have bought a used one long ago.
But saying that the sound quality is far superior is convincing me (-:

The ultimate test for me: if I'll still want one next week, I'll probably buy it (-:

Having used the PSR-3000 in daily performances for more than a decade, I was very reluctant to upgrade to the S950. It took me nearly a year to find one and actually sit down and play it. After just 10 minutes playing Joe Ayala's S-950 I was a convert. I heard sounds that I never heard with the 3000 and the difference was very dramatic.

Good Luck,

If you are from Israel, you probably need too use samples too.And that is where s950 falls short. In that category if you need samples you can try Korg pa600 or pa900.
But,if you don't need samples than s950 is a great board.
