I have the old PA1X that I have been more than happy with for the last 10 years . it has been upgraded by the Golden Entertainer Ram product that was around some time ago that my good colleague Wittid turned me on to. That was a great tip by the way Wittid !!

I have written and programmed literally hundreds of songs and song ideas on my keyboard hardrive.

I am coming into some money in the next few weeks and so will have about £4000 that I can spend on my self.

I am aware that my old PA1X cant last for ever, and i am scared that at some point in the future, it will fail on me . I dont want to move to yamaha although I am attracted to their sounds. But I need the fully fledged onboard sequencer and touchscreen . And roland, casio and Ketron are just not in the same league of Korg at present.

Anyway i would need to be able to transfer all my work to my new board (if or when that happens) .

So the question is , should I buy a new PA4X or pick up a cheaper PA3X in the next few months. The PA3X seems fairly stable and the 4X seems to still have some substantial bugs to work out.

Both Boards ,( I expect ) would be a substantial upgrade to my trusty PA1X I presume.

Or should I bank the money and wait until the 5X is available and bug test that . By the silence from Korg regarding fixing the existing bugs on the 4X, or any further updates , I suspect it is close to the end of its product life cycle and a new board is close to being finished (hopefully) .

I dont have to make any decsion desperately urgently but would value the opinion of the members of this board greatly . Especially those that use their instruments extensively and not simply to play styles or midi files.

I am especially to hear from those that have moved from the PA3X to the 4X and whether you feel the cost difference was worth the hit.

this next purchase is also likely to last me for another ten years so build quality is also a consideration (but not as big as sound quality , effects and programability).

best
wishes

Congrats Spalding on your new 'toy' money.

Not sure if your 1X will transfer to a 3 or 4. I had an 800 live for years and loved it. When I moved to the 3X, nothing transferred. I had to start all over. It was a long road, but well worth it.

Not played the 4, but hear the acoustic piano and midi file drum extracts are worth it alone.

I can say that the audiences love the 3X. It keeps ticking after 4 years, mile after mile. It still holds its value very well and I've had NOT ONE glitch with it (1000s of jobs).

I've never really thought much of the VH, maybe that has improved with the 4, but I could really care less about that feature.

Don M will be the guy to compare the two!

Best of luck.

I bought a brand new PA4x for 2600 euro... and on top of that getting 500 euro back for my good old used G70, which was on sale for like 4 months and on which i never got an offer above 300.. (where a used pa3x still sells at around €2000)

If it would have been an 88 key version with the Kronos 88 action or even better a module. i would have sold all my other gear, .

There is noting the pa4x cant do, sound quallity is quite a step above the pa3x.. as well as the build quallity and the screen user interface..

I havent missed my T5 for a single moment since i sold it, soundwise there is nothing missing in the PA4x.. If they add some interface upgrades with the next software update everything can be perfect...

If you are lucky you might be able to find a used one in mint condition...

Spalding.

Wait until after the show in Frankfurt Germany ... at least until end of April. Then make a choice once you've seen what's in the market....

If you are hinting for the ketron sd9, people are allready wayting for a year..

And noboddy would seriously consider buying a ketron in the first few months after release... maybe even the first year... nd then if they anounce the sd9 at musikmesse, how long till they get delivered in big numbers?

I am sorry AJ, but wayting a year, is not really an option, if so he should buy the pa3x now and then upgrade to the sd9 somewhere in 2018...

Yes, ketron arrangers are top knotch when they finally work as intended, but the pass has proven Ketron needs time to get there..

I love the PA4X. I have found zero bugs. It was well worth the upgrade from 3X. New sound source, big color screen, direct load from USB (finally), I don't believe a 5X will appear for at least another year or so, but I don't know for sure.
The vocal processing and harmonizer are outstanding!

I love mine almost as much as my Audya. I haven't come across any bugs either.
