Hi Folks,
In the Cakewalk software products there are no Instrument Definitions for the Technics brand. Has anybody built these Instrument Definitions and would be willing to share their file with me? Sure would save me a lot of work!
Carol

Hi BEBOP,
I received your email with the attachment, but haven't opened it yet as I am not at home using my own computer. Will download it tonight. Thanks for the quick reply. Now, at the expense of having my stupidity hang out for all the world to see, I have another question. I thought that the Instrument Definitions were generic by specific brand of instrument (Technics, Yamaha, Roland, etc.). You describe them as KN6 definitions. Does that mean that each model (KN6, KN5, PR, etc.)of Technics instrument have it's own specific Instrument Definitions? Can I use the Instrument Definition file that you sent me for my PR702? Help me out again, please.
Carol

I've downloaded the instrument definition files for the KN6000. One minor problem I have is that although I tick the box 'Save changes for next session'. Each time I reload the file, I have to select the KN6000 instrument definitions, as it always defaults to Sound Font Device. Once I've done that, the Kn instruments chosen are back as selected. There is a posting on the Cakewalk Forum on this site, but I wondered if any Technics enthusiasts know the answer.

HI Carol,
I honestly don't know the answer to this question. See what John posted and take a look at the cakewalk forum on this site. I am sure you can get that answer there. or write the guy that put up the zip file I sent you at: kerstwim@worldonline.nl
Thanks to Gunnar for this pointer

Hi Carol: Yes, each keyboard model (KN5000,KN6000 etc) needs a specific unique Cakewalk instrument definition file (.INS) made for that specific keyboard. The .INS file contains the keyboard's unique instrument names & unique drumkit mapping which enable you to select any of the sounds of your specific keyboard directly from within Cakewalk/Sonar. The KN6000 file will not work with your PR702. You'll need an .INS file created specifically for the PR702. You could contact Cakewalk Music: http://cakewalk.com
to find out if they might already have a PR702 .INS file available. Otherwise, you'll probably have to create your own .INS file from scratch

Good luck - Scott http://scottyee.com

Although I am not certain, I believe the KN5000 .ins file will work with the PR702. A KN5000 .ins file is available at my KN5000 "How To" pages at item 30.

Hi Bob: Interesting to hear that the KN5000 .INS file will work on the PR702. Does that mean that the PR702 & KN5000 have identical sound names & drum kit mappings? If so, this would be great and save Carol a LOT of work
Btw, if I do actually get a chance to take a trip to Nashville for Summer NAMM, I'd love the opportunity to meet you there.

see my post at http://www.synthzone.com/ubbs/Forum25/HTML/000304.html

the 5000 sound chip was used in the pr*02 series,
and the original 6000 nx chip is used in the pr*03 series,
I guess with differences in the piano sample rom,
so there could be good chance that at least some or most of the program numbers match.

need to compare the explorer numbers in a 903 versus a 6000 to check.

it should at the very least provide a basis for editing much easier than starting from scratch?

I agree, Alec.

Scott, I can normally go to Nashville on less than a days notice. Just keep me informed of your plans.

Hi,
Thanks all for giving me your best shot. Think I will post on the Cakewalk Forum to see if anybody there has something already built that they will email me. If not, will have to follow the directions for building my own on the Cakewalk website. (Thanks Scotee)

Dear BEBOP:

As you know, I have a KN6500. Can you send the ZIP file of the Cakewalk Instr. defs. for my keyboard to me (as well as Carol), too? Thanks again! (What would we amateurs do without you?!)

Ted Rose

Thanks for pointing that out Gunnar Jonny. Also if any of you have instrument definitions that are hard to find that you'd like me to archive on the ftp site here at Synth Zone you may send them to me using email with an explanation of what they are and for which model. Unlike styles which can be covered by copyright making it fraught with problems to distribute, instrument definitions are fine.
