This is my Major Mystery problem for the week. I have been downloading some songs from various sources, Most of them are Zip files and are shown with a piano icon eg. Alec's "Once in a while". These files will open up on my Logic Audio Platinum, can be saved to disk, played on my K.N.5000 and if the disk is inserted back into the computer will activate Logic and play from the disk. BUT=== Songs that are winzip files and show a floppy disk icon and several blue "style" icons eg. Franks " Russia" I find I have to "select all", send to disc and then the disc will play on the keyboard But if I reinsert the disk into the computer Logic will not recognise it and I get messages that either the "patch package"??? or the "device"??? is not acceptable.Am I missing a step here or am I just after the impossible again.I am on a very steep learning curve as I have only had the computer and Logic a short while.Could anyone advise,please.Cheers Jean.

The file with the piano is probably not a zipfile, it's sounds like
a midifile the way you describe it.
How those icons looks depend of what program the file is assigned to,
and that again depends of each of the users equipment/sofware to play
these files, or more correctly, what sofware the users has set to do
this action.
Most software will "grab" the type of files it is made to handle if it
is not set otherwise when install of the program.
Then it's usually the last installed program who make the icon and
opens the file. Most often this option can be changed by the user in
the programoptions menu, or else in Windows file properties settings.

The other files you mention, as i.e. Frank's, is KN format files, and
cannot be played back on the PC. That is Technicsformat who are being
unzipped to the diskette the way you describe it.
Zipfiles is usually made in two ways, either a selfextracting package,
who will "unzip" the files when click it without any program to handle
it, or a ordinary zipfile who needs a program like WinZip etc.
Those icons also changes depending to what software you have installed,
and set to default to handle this files, and here you most often also
often can change settings (also swap icons) in the programs optionmenu.

yes, you must distinguish between midi files (called *.mid) and technics format files (several files *.seq, *.cmp, *.lsw etc etc).

midis play on everything, technics play only on technics (within model format limitations)

unzipping to disk is another subject which Gunnar describes. He has an explanation of the technics files on his website

Thank you Jonny and Alec. I'll digest all this information and report my progress.I like to play the midifiles on the computer and watch the score window, then with the K. N 5000 set to R and B Chord as described in last month's Techplus magazine I can play a counter melody or harmony along with the midi.Sounds great with just a soft organ in the left and flute or voice on right.You do need the music in the key to get the chord symbols,.
