Hi, What sound card do you suggest to buy to make a small home studio? ... at pro level quality. Something external, some stand alone system on which I wouldn't spend 2 or 3 days just to set my PC to work with it... and ofcourse, something not to expencive.
What kind of recording system do you want to get? Do you need HD recording plus midi controlling? You'll need a special audio card for it, not only a sound card. This audio card has to provide the ASIOdirect standard. The same with your recording software which should also provide this standard.
I don't know a special audio card that I could comment you but I've heard about a Roland audio card. Roland is a manufacturer for synths so I guess that their audio cards must be the best of all...
You can use Cubase SX/MX, Sonar4 or Cakewalk as the recording software. Maybe you'll find some other good products which could play in the same ligue.

My only suggestion is for you to seriesly consider a firewire interface. Not many companies making USB much anymore... Looks like firewire is the current/next generation. I hear there's new pipe coming soon. Don't know the name of it though. Supposed to be faster than firewire.
I thought about this whole SIAB vrs PC... I give up on the PC world... I went with a Yammy AW16G. There's been a 200 dollar price drop recently.

Thanks,bouth of you guys...
...last night there was another fight, but nothing special - few drunk kids start it because of a girl...it finished in few minutes after the club owner get them out of a club... next weekend we're starting to play at outdoor swimming pools and have a weeding giggs allmost every weekend...for a few months I'll try to forget this "gig fights" till the autmn when we're comming back... maybe through the summer will play a few "gig fights"...
Why not using a submixer system for the drums? You can mix your drums with its own mixer and then send the signal to a stereo channel of the main mixer. This works good for many live acts. You're able to split your monitors...

What do you mean with "in real time"? A man on a mixer has two hands to level the output in real time... A comp/limiter will give you a static output level and you can use one for each instrument. A noisegate is useful for eleminate surrounding noises of the microphones (drums and singer). If you need some special effects like reverb/delay/flange then they should be controlled by the drummer itself (like the effects of a guitarist/keyboardist).

Oups! I see it now...I was a little bit out of order...
Well, for recording on a computer you should be able to control your effects like you can do it with your synths. Most digital effects have a midi port which allows you to control effect related values like pitch, EQ, in+out level, LFO speeds, and so on... The same options should be available for you even if you're using virtual devices for your recordings...
I hope this could help you a little bit better...

...I have SB live 5.1 music card on my PC and I try to record on cubase sx and samplitude... but... when I record a few tracks, add efect or do some eq adjustments my computer is start to choking, some delays are showing on... I have Duron procesor 1,00 Ghz, 256 RAM...
Well, this seems to be a typical problem of unsufficient memory capacity. The processor shouldn't be the problem but for Cubase MX/SX it is recommended to use 512 MB RAM minimum (especially if you're running virtual synths or effects).

Buy a small(er) mixer with 8 channels for you drums, mix each drum how you want and take the stereo output so its only one channel.
As for the device I would suggest the Delta 1010 (300-400 used, 500 new i think) its a pci and rackmount that uses one cable to transfer everything from the breakout box. A cheaper suggestion is the Delta 1010LT, pci card with 10 channels worth or inputs. 200 new.

In that case a great product would be the Tascam FW-1884 *EDIT* I meant to link you to the FW-1082, the link is changed http://www.tascam.com/Products/fw1082.html I played with on at GC and it is one great product. I dont know if it has as many channels as you want, but they do have a larger version, but more spendy. Good module for about 700-800. Also there is the smaller rackmount version for a couple hundred less http://www.tascam.com/Products/fw1804.html

It is a bit exspensive, but reasonable. Another thing to concider is that it is a new product, in a year it will drop a good 100 or so with an array of used gear for a lot cheaper. Currently the best deal ive found on the desktop console was 615 (new i think), the best price on rackmount was 465 (used). There are several other options including Presonus firestation and another Presonus product that is a rackmount firewire box with 8 inputs. A used firestation is 350. The key thing is to keep your eyes peeled on used gear. I dont know how you feel about used stuff but finding gear used for cheap and in gresat condition is very much worth it in my opnion.
Im trying to find another type of setup your looking for and trying to stay less than 500. I think im heading into a Mixer with the DeltaLT. 200 for the PCI card, and 300 to dump into a mixer, easily setup and cost effective. If you want a setup that is easily transferred and setup i would sugget the Tascam console, just one firewire cord and its quite small.
