Gang-

Our 9 year old Pug seems to be less sure of himself as he moves about our home. This has been going on about a week or so. He seems to be "navigating" more by sound and scent than by vision. Jumping from the couch or out the front door seems difficult, almost scary for him. We've also seen him walk into a gate and some furniture...

If I take my open hand and quickly move it toward his nose, he doesn't flinch...Very slightly when my hand almost touches his face, but that could be he senses a change in wind or something....

He's an indoor dog except when we let him out to go the bathroom. He's fed a weight control dog food made by Iaams. He's been very healthy ever since we bought him as a new born almost ten years ago. He's a pure bred and have papers, shot history, registrations documents, etc...

We'll be getting him into the Vet 1st thing Monday morning...

Ideas?

Thanks-

Dogs get cataracts also, although it usually comes on gradually like in people.
Could be an injured nerve from a head bang or similar.
I sure hope it is temporary in a dog that young.
My Rocky dog is 14 next week and his vision is fine. Pomeranians often have problems with cataracs and usually at a younger age.

I lost my 18 year old Pomeranian last fall.
She had cataracts for the last couple of years started being afraid to go up and down steps because she couldn't see them. she would jump from the top step.
My 16 year old beagle/border collie mix has them now also but they hide it well you'd never know it unless you watch her close.
We walk a mile a day at the park and I believe that has contributed to the longevity and good health of these dogs.
At the park she used to run through the woods now she stays on the path and within sight of me.
My 9 year old long haired 70 lb Bassett mutt is now the puppy of the family.

Pugsly has glaucoma, vision loss assessed at 95% and increasing rapidly...

Overall in good shape, living in optimal environment, we should get a few more years out of the little guy...
