I have a lot of great sounding soft synth modules, samples, and effects in the laptop, so I don't miss the ES as much anymore when I don't bring it, other than it also doubles as a very good controller and it's VL150 plug in board still has the best horn and reed sounds of anything I've ever used.

aj, what spec is your laptop? i am asking as i have just bought a laptop, with a view to doing something similar, in my case its to get some decent distorted/overdrive gtr sofsynths happening with both some styles and midi files...mine has the p-m 1.73 centrino with a gig of ram, (80 gig hdd)do you reckon thats enough to do what i want, or does that depend on the soft synth? talking of which, are there any you can recommend i look at (guitar ones) ?
