I have been using USS "A-Frame" stands for a long time too. I had someone "donate" a whole bunch of parts to me years ago (he just gave them to me) so I have more than enough extra parts. My stand sets up in ~15 seconds ... mainly 'cause I leave it fully together (but "folded") when transporting it. Granted, I use a Mini-van for transport. I just put the whole thing in the minivan "whole". At the gig, I unfold it, and it's ready. And I have lots of room on the floor for pedals and such. [I used to bring MIDI 18-note foot pedals, but I don't do that much anymore].
The USS A-Frame is not for everyone for sure, as it is a "big" unit (if left assembled), but it's lightweight and very fast to set up. On mine, I've added little lights, power distibution, etc.
That new stand (1st note in this thread) looks interesting - is is made for keyboards, or some other use?
-Jim

Quick Lock was still in business as of a week ago, Donny. I don't believe anything has changed since then. http://www.quiklok.com/home.php Over the years I've had lots of stands, including the Apex, which was very lightweight, but if you stored it disassembled in the bag, it took 20 minutes to set up. Now, DonM kept his assembled, which made sense, but the assembled stand measured about 4 X 5 feet when using two tiers and was a bit difficult to transport on the Rock And Roller cart in that fashion. My setup time with the QL742 is about 10 seconds, including the time it takes to put the top-tier arms in place. However, it weighs about twice as much as the aluminum Apex stand, tipping the scales at 20 pounds. When it gets to the point where 20 pounds is too much for me to lift, I'll have to get out of this business. My stand folds perfectly flat, easily stores in the van, and takes up very little space. I sold my Apex stand to a guy in New York several years ago for $100 and it had three tiers. He was a home player and said it was perfect for him at home, but he would never consider it for performing out because of the assembly time. Gary
