March is not coming in like a lion..it's coming in like an avalanche at Warp Speed! This snow storm set up is a classic "over-running" case where mild air to the south rides up and over cold Arctic air at the surface creating a very large band of heavy snow. What's unusual is the widespread coverage from Kansas to New Jersey and the prolonged 48-60 hour event. Models show several "waves" of low pressure moving along this front this weekend into early Tuesday next week so timing will be nearly impossible as there could be several periods of heavier snow with lulls in between. The total 2-day accumulations look to be 12"+ in many areas from KS to NJ. The difference between 12" and rain is likely less than 50 miles so where the exact line sets up is not 100% certain but most likely from Southern Missouri to Southern Delaware will be rain and the further north of that line all snow to heavy snow. The tail end of the storm could bring lighter 1-4” amounts in parts of the Northern Southeast and even Central Virginia next week. This is going to be a record shattering snowy start to March -
